Lee Ann
studio manager

I love to travel, bike, garden and spend time with my son and husband.I am open minded and enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. I have a passion for nature and give thanks everyday for the beauty that is all around us. My perfect day would be leaving the city limits with my family and reconnect with earth. Prior to coming to Moksha Yoga Downtown I was working in retail and attended George Brown College for 3 years learning ASL. When the opportunity arose for me to join the Moksha Downtown team I was excited and ready for a new challenge. After attending my first class I feel in love with hot Yoga. I am excited and feel blessed to now be a part of the Moksha community

Rebecca Bliss
teacher

Rebecca was drawn to yoga as a last resort to relieve extreme pain. After just one week of practice in a heated room, she began to notice relief and developed a very close and steady connection to her practice.
She has lived and traveled throughout Canada working in theatre, dance and operations within the homeless and family sector. Always carrying yoga with her, she continued her yogic study alongside her work as a tool for healing, sharing and breathing.

Rebecca feels gratitude every day to the Moksha Community and all of her teachers. Rebecca has since returned to the arts to join the management team on the upcoming Ross Petty Production of "Robin Hood." .

Kierstin Hienrickson
teacher

Kierstin was introduced to Bikram Yoga in 1999, and was immediately connected. Yoga became a major part of her life, where her heart, body, and mind found a home. In 2005 she attended the Moksha Yoga training in Toronto.

Kierstin is grateful to be a part of the Moksha community, and continues to learn and grow with each class she guides. Kiersten cherishes the mental, spiritual, and physical benefits that yoga provides. Having a deep interest in both physical and mental health, she feels that Yoga is for everyone, and should be available for all. She brings an infectious fearlessness to her classes and offers an accessible and supportive challenge with her instruction.

When Kiersten is out of the hot room, you can find her snapping photos professionally (www.artecaphoto.com), spending time in the woods up north or preparing something delicious in the kitchen.

Leah Von Zuben
teacher

Leah was enticed toward hot yoga at age 17 by the promise of being taken out to dinner afterward (at first she was a little hesitant about trying yoga)! But from the first class Leah knew yoga was the path for her. She credits her regular yoga practice as having given her tools to overcome life's hurdles in creative and healthy ways. Having attended Moksha Yoga's 2006 teacher training, Leah is in love with continuing to study and sharing her knowledge of yoga! She brings clarity and accessibility in her instruction with the belief that everyone has wisdom and potential. She is constantly being inspired as both a student and a teacher by EVERYONE around her. Leah has also studied pre-natal yoga at Esther Myer's studio, Hatha yoga at Jairam Ashram, India and mindfulness meditation with Frank Jude Boccio. She also works as a birth Doula and volunteers those skills as a Labor Support at June Calwood's Centre for Women.

Peter Ward
teacher

Peter was first motivated to come to yoga by spandex and lycra. As his practice developed, he realized that while spandex and lycra are great gifts, there was more life changing potential that he could find in yoga.

Peter completed the Moksha Teacher Training in Toronto. As a long time Toronto resident, he is overjoyed to be sharing this hot practice almost everyday in the role of instructor.
His classes are void of pomp and inaccessibility. Peter lives and teaches close to the earth, welcoming every student in with accepting arms. His open heart and lack of judgment are expressed through every class he instructs.

Peter credits his consistent yoga practice with saving his life and is deeply grateful to all his teachers and the Moksha community for their encouragement and support. It is with the most enthusiasm that he shares the transformational power of yoga.

Barbara Pallomina
teacher

Barbara attended her first yoga class at the age of 3; she’s been hooked ever since. Taking her first hot yoga class in 2003, she found herself simultaneously challenged and comforted by the heat, the environmental awareness, and the knowledge and expertise of the teachers that infuses the Moksha Community. This led her to take the teacher training in the summer of 2006.
Barbara’s instruction comes from a place of genuine care and connection to her students. Her dedication to her own practice allows her to guide classes from a place of authenticity void of any attachment to ego or bravado. Barbara’s gentle wisdom and love shines through her every breath.
Extremely grateful to join the MYDT team, she is continually amazed at the power of yoga to transform people's lives. Barbara is also a professional dance artist and has studied alternative dance techniques including Skinner Releasing and Authentic Movement.
She finds joy in dance, a hot bath and humour.

Joshua Kreig
teacher

Joshua’s yogic journey began in 1989 with a four-year stay in a Roman Catholic Seminary preparing for priesthood. After various paths and roles he currently finds the role “student of yoga” incredibly life-giving. In 2007, He knew, after practicing for a short while, that he wanted to teach. Yoga is providing spiritual insights that are life-changing and enriching his entire career and life path.

As someone who uses yoga to manage an illness, he is personally aware of the healing power and of the moving meditation that is asana (postures). He is always first a student, with much to learn from all who he practices with. This student-mind is evident in Joshua’s carefully thought out instruction. His hunger for new knowledge is shared within each of his classes.

He is so excited to be a part of the Moksha family. And gives great thanks to his teachers Robert Liddy and Des Scanlon who helped him navigate with authenticity when he found himself at a crossroads in his life journey. In Joshua's spare time, he adores “doing nothing” or “non-spending” time. Just being. He believes all past journeys led to this very point: nothing is wasted and all is gift.

Mike Stiener
teacher

Mike’s yoga journey began in the wee hours in a hot studio somewhere in Toronto. He was forever changed and immediately captivated. One of Mike’s favourite facts to share, is that he was the very first student to sign up for the first ever Moksha Yoga Teacher Training. Mike has also studied Anusra and studied Ujjayi breathing with Michael Stone. He also completed the 200 hour Anusara teacher training at Yogaphoria.

His approach to teaching is to always include humour, fun and a good dose of unpredictability! Mike’s kind heart and dedicated practice shine through his instruction. If you’re lucky, you can still find him around town playing pool or spending time close to the earth in his garden.

Jess Mcintyre
teacher

When I was 16 I went skiing with a girlfriend and her family for the March break. On the last day of our week long holiday I fell and tore my ACL in my right knee. That August I had surgery on my knee to repair the damage... During my recovery period I practiced yoga to regain my range of motion. I recovered fully, went back to swimming full time and never gave yoga a second thought…until I graduated from university.

When I graduated from the University of Toronto I had been a swimmer for 14 years; it was a huge part of my identity. After graduating I had no idea what to do with my life; I was terrified. I started to practice yoga with my mom and little sister and fell in love! Practicing yoga helped me make the transition from student life to working life more balanced. My yoga practice helped teach me how to take deep breaths, listen and trust myself more fully so that I could continue moving forward loving life!

I love to spend time with friends; whether I am: running with a friend, skiing with my family, sitting on the cottage dock with a friend reading, traveling the globe, or just a couple of girls hanging out, being surrounded by loving, friendly, smiling, faces it is my favorite way to spend my time.

Love of travel and self-discovery first led Jessica to hot yoga at the age of 18 when she moved to Vancouver to pursue acting. Since then, she has lived and worked in Montreal, Toronto, Trinidad, London and Waterloo using her enthusiasm and talent for communication to inspire both French and English communities to explore methods of healing and health through yoga. It is Jessica’s goal as a teacher and student to integrate the desire for growth and evolution with love and compassion. She believes it is through this balance that we will heal the world. Jess’ commitment to detail and constant self-study is apparent in each of her classes. She offers students a wealth of knowledge, ideas and challenges in each class. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto and continues to pursue work in performance.

Paul Gangadeen
teacher

Paul has been a student of Yoga since 1998 and has studied its various lineages enabling him to relate to and address the many issues which different bodies encounter while on the path of yoga. His passion for Kriya Yoga was ignited by Paramhansa Yogananda’s highly-regarded ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ which inspired his initiation into Babaji’s Kriya Yoga culminating in a Registered Kriya Hatha Yoga Teacher certificate in 2004.

Paul’s exposure to a myriad of holistic and western treatments brought him to yoga’s sister science of ayurveda. Its positive effects prompted his calling to empower others to take control over their health. The result of his journey culminated in the birth of Pure Life Ayu Yoga (PLAY) whose mission is to educate, promote, and encourage total health through the practices of yoga and ayurveda.

Paul’s gentle heart and dedication to study are brought to every class he instructs.

Jacqueline Huard
teacher

Jacqueline can remember even from a young age, an inexplicable draw to yoga. Knowing nothing of the practice, her curiosity was not explored until her mid twenties. It was a cold day back in December of 2005 that Jacqueline agreed to join a friend and take her first hot yoga class! Not only did she enjoy the class she immediately became a regular practitioner. In conjunction with a love for yoga, Jacqueline is driven by a lust for knowledge and a keen interest in health and wellness. Jacqueline strives to make her classes welcoming to all. The emphasis is to create an environment where the practice is always about the student. “I want it said of me, by those who knew me best, that I always planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow.” Abraham Lincoln

Julie Tanner
teacher

I have been practicing Moksha yoga since 2004; Hatha yoga in general on and off throughout my teens and adult life. I have participated in many Ashtanga, Sivananda, and Jiva Muhkti classes over the last several years. I find that I benefit from the heated practice and have a bit of a preference for it. I hesitated for a long time on becoming an instructor because I was concerned that guiding others practice might take away from my own ability to practice; and that without it, I would have nothing to bring to my instructing. In time I realized that would only be true if I allowed it to be. Eventually, I came to feel that I do have something to share as an instructor and I attended the March 2009 Moksha teacher training in Kerala, India. I still practice regularly and I view instructing as an extension of my practice.

It is strange and challenging for me to try and put in to words exactly what my practice is to me.
My yoga practice is like a conversation; my body, my spirit, and my relationship to the world around me all showing up with their say... The evolution of this conversation is ongoing, there is give-and-take and it shifts all the time. Sometimes my practice is more physical; sometimes more mental; sometimes purely spiritual. I consider myself to be a student and studying yoga has taught me that there is always something new to layer in to my practice (it never needs to get boring) and that in every aspect of our daily lives there is an opportunity to practise yoga. I can't say that I don't often miss the opportunity, but I am practicing! It has shown me all the grace and beauty in the meaning of, 'practic/se'. It has taught me that back-tracking is sometimes the best way around the obstacle. It has taught me about patience. And it's just yoga...

Hope to meet you at the downtown studio sometime! Have some fun!
Much love, compassion, and respect to you and your practice.
Be well,
Julie T

Gabriela Doiu
teacher

After attending her first hot yoga class in 2003, Gabriela immediately fell in love!  An avid fitness buff, she was initially attracted to the practice for the intense workout, but quickly came to realize that it was the mental release that kept her coming back.  Gabriela credits Moksha yoga to helping her win the battle against an eating disorder and forever changing her life.  Over the years, yoga has and continues to have a profound effect on every aspect of Gabriela’s life that she decided to take the plunge and become a certified Moksha instructor.  Having completed her teacher training in India, March 2009, Gabriela feels honoured to be able to share yoga with others and positively affect change in their lives.

Julia Gibran

teacher

Julia does everything she can to live her yoga! Yoga came into her life six years ago and continues to transform her body, mind and spirit in ways she can't even imagine. Once very lethargic and depressed she found a humble self love through her yoga practice and works to cultivate contentment despite what mood she may find herself in: "Being 'PRESENT' saves my life!" Without constantly drawing herself back into the moment she suffers from what she likes to term: "The What if Syndrome", which by definition is the ultimate anxiety booster. "It is the question that leads you away from what you can and are doing, to self deprecating thoughts about the past and what you have yet to achieve." So as both a teacher and student she works to use yoga as an active practice where conscious intention, positive affirmation and inner strength are exercised to promote overall health and well being.

Julia completed the Toronto Moksha teacher training in July 2006, an Iyengar Meditation and Asana Teacher Training in Rhishikesh India April 2008, and a Yoga For Kids and Pre Natal Teacher Training at the Yoga Sanctuary Summer 2009.

A student for life Julia's other loves include: travelling, writing, delicious food, working with Youth, Dramatic Arts (which she is currently pursuing a Masters in), spending time with her fam and friends and dancing til she beads sweat on her upper lip and lower back!

Marianne Horak

teacher

My greatest bliss is in the practice of yoga and my next is guiding others in their own practice. I recieved my first teacher certification from Bikram Choudry in Los Angeles and am a constant and dedicated student of yoga through its many traditions and lineages. Yoga has helped me to learn how to breathe my way through class and breathe my way through life; as the struggles I face on my mat mirror those I face each day. Through Yoga I find peace in connecting with my Self and the realisation that the joy of yoga is in the doing, as the joy of life is in the being. "Do your practice and all is coming" - Sri K Patthabi Jois
